Canal & River Trust

The Canal & River Trust cares for 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, including Leeds–Liverpool Canal, right here on our doorstep. We’re proud of to say some of our Scout groups have partnered with the Trust to help protect and enjoy our local canal, which is not only rich in wildlife and history, but also a fantastic space for adventure, learning, and wellbeing.

4th Crosby maintain a section of the canalside for the whole community to enjoy, and 10th Crosby take part in regular canal-side clean-ups, conservation projects, and nature walks. One off paddlesport activities are also available as part of this partnership.

Why not discover how you can all play a role in keeping these beautiful blue spaces thriving. Whether it's litter picking, habitat restoration, or simply exploring the canal network by towpath or water, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

Crosby Wombles
&
Wombles of Waterloo

Crosby & District Scouts have been inspired by the Wombles of Waterloo and Crosby Wombles, community volunteer-led groups working hard to keep the local area clean and litter-free. Everyone is welcome, just join an organised litter picking walk or arrange one of your own. The group welcome you to share photos of your 'Wombling' to inspire others!

Volunteers with Wombles of Waterloo and Crosby Wombles are happy to visit Crosby & District Scout groups to talk about the value of volunteering, join in litter-picking activities, and teach young people the importance of caring for our precious environment.

If your section is planning a litter-picking activity, equipment can be borrowed from District.

📍 Wherever there’s litter to be found — Wombles roam free!
